But it irks me that people switches their shield to their right hand. There's a reason to carry it on the left.
I get it that is for compositions sake. It still irks me, but I won't bash on your work. If it meant to look like that, it meant to look like that.
You can leave an opening by placing a shield besides a shield without a weapon in between. And you don't want two guys thrusting swords nears each others arm.
It's not about the hand you are most skilled with. If the majority has the shield on the left then everyone does.
"U" <-shield "I" <-sword M<- enemy
Here is the normal formation whichever side the enemy strafes to there is a sword. Except the left side of the entire formation obviously
This one is by far the worst, as it creates a point without danger where the enemy just needs to push in between the shields to break the line.
In this one there two sword, but both can cut each other arm when thrusting. But it's relatively safe if it happens in the end of the formation
This last one is what happens when the guy with the shield in the wrong hand is in the middle of the formation
You get a enemy that avoids a the zones that has to swords and charges through the side with two shields. And once divided
You get killed.
This is Historically accurate.
There is strategic reason on forcing shields on the same side. Not a personal preference on which hand you are most skilled with.
I imagine left-handed people would just train to use their other hand; it's not impossible.
I didn't notice the guy on the right side of the artwork; I was looking at the zombie with the axe, who wouldn't be bothered by strategy; but the guy on the right is a whole different matter, especially if fighting zombies.
Yeah I don't think zombies care about formations and strategy either XD
And this pic reminds me to...
